Eduardo Amaral joined the BIS in October 2024. Based in the Americas, he focuses on macroeconomic monitoring across the region and supports the Consultative Group on Monetary Policy under the BIS Consultative Council for the Americas. He was with the Central Bank of Brazil since 2010, holding roles in the Economic Department and the Open Market Operations Department. From 2021 to 2024, he served as Deputy Advisor, leading analysis and forecasting of credit and monetary indicators and contributing to flagship publications such as the Monetary Policy Report. Earlier, he analysed international conjuncture, monitored yield curve developments for the Monetary Policy Committee (Copom), and built data infrastructure for macro‑financial time series and financial microdata. His research focuses on monetary policy. Eduardo holds a PhD in economics from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC‑Rio), where he also lectured, and was a visiting research student at the London School of Economics. He received the 2022 Haralambos Simeonidis prize for best PhD thesis.
