The work of the CBGG is supported and complemented by that of the Central Bank Governance Network (CBGN), which the BIS established in 1999 as an informal mechanism to facilitate knowledge-sharing on matters of central bank governance. Currently 56 BIS member central banks are represented on the Network. The Network supports information gathering and dissemination among BIS member central banks on related topics. Specialised surveys are conducted through Network members as needed to inform CBGG discussions or provide comparisons across jurisdictions on matters of governance and institutional design.
