Central Bank secondments to the Asia Office

The Asia Office offers a secondment/visiting economist programme for member central banks in the Asia-Pacific region to foster closer working relationships with BIS shareholding central banks.

The programme is part of the BIS's general secondment programme offered to candidates from member central banks. We offer secondment opportunities for visiting economists of central banks in the region to work in the Asia Office.

Programme details

Eligible candidates should be talented individuals with a good knowledge of macroeconomics, monetary economics, international finance, financial markets or financial innovation and experience applying this knowledge in analysis of policy issues of interest to central banks, particularly issues related to emerging market economies.

The programme is flexible in terms of duration, which can be from several weeks to 12 months or more. We will also consider arrangements in which the secondee continues to work in his or her home institution but occasionally visits the BIS Asia Office as required by the project.

This is a co-funded arrangement where the secondee remains an employee of the seconding organisation and therefore continues to receive a full salary from the seconding organisation. For secondees who normally reside outside Hong Kong SAR, the BIS will provide a monthly living allowance, temporary furnished accommodation, health insurance and return flights.
