The FSI contributes to its mandate through various capacity development initiatives including FSI Connect – the BIS's e-learning platform – and a roster of online courses.
The FSI also publishes Executive Summaries – they provide brief synopses of global financial regulatory standards and key topics related to banking and insurance regulation and supervision.
FSI Connect is available exclusively to central banks, supervisory authorities, deposit insurers and other eligible public sector authorities. The FSI Connect library covers primarily international financial regulatory standards and sound supervisory practices, including the latest prudential standards, key guidance on banking and insurance supervision, relevant accounting standards, and resolution and deposit insurance topics.

In addition to developing new content, the FSI updates or replaces existing tutorials as necessary to ensure they reflect the most recent guidance from the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and the International Association of Insurance Supervisors. The FSI also selectively develops new content based on publications by other relevant standard-setting bodies, such as the Financial Stability Board.

Each online course covers a specific topic of interest to financial sector authorities and consists of self-study materials (including FSI Connect tutorials) and live webinars. The courses are organised in collaboration with partners.
The BIS online course on finance, innovation and technology (BIS-FIT) is aimed at supervisory and regulatory staff and other central bank staff (such as those involved with payments, research and innovation) working on the different aspects of the digitalisation of finance. Although specific topics are selected at the start of each year, BIS-FIT typically covers AI in finance, cryptoassets and tokenisation, and cyber resilience.
BIS FIT is co-organised with other units of the BIS, such as the Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures, the Cyber Resilience Coordination Centre, the BIS Innovation Hub and the Monetary and Economic Department.
The Bank Resolution Online Course (BROC) is aimed at staff working in resolution authorities or deposit insurers or on resolution policy. It covers the core elements of bank resolution frameworks, resolution strategies and resolvability, and the arrangements and practices that need to be in place to ensure that resolution is effective. It is co-organised with the International Monetary Fund.
The Insurance Regulatory and Supervisory Training Online Course (FIRST) is designed to provide a foundational understanding of insurance supervision to entry-level or experienced professionals who are new to insurance supervision. It is co-organised with the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS).
The Specialised Insurance Online Course (SIOC) covers international insurance regulatory standards comprising the Common Framework for the Supervision of Internationally Active Insurance Groups, the global Insurance Capital Standard and the Holistic Framework for the assessment and mitigation of systemic risk in the global insurance sector. It is co-organised with the IAIS.
The Supervisory and Regulatory Online Course (SROC) covers the fundamental aspects of banking regulation and supervision, including the international standards and guidelines issued by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. SROC also provides an introduction to climate-related financial risks and fintech regulation. It is co-organised with the International Monetary Fund.
The Climate Training Alliance (CTA) is a joint initiative of the BIS, the International Association of Insurance Supervisors, the Network of Central Banks and Supervisors for Greening the Financial System and the Sustainable Insurance Forum.
The CTA online platform centralises climate-related and environmental risks training resources (live events and self-study materials) to build knowledge and expertise among central banks and supervisors in order to respond to financial risks arising from climate change and environmental degradation. Staff from member institutions of the sponsoring organisations can self-register to sign up to access the CTA portal.
Executive Summaries provide brief synopses of new and revised global financial regulatory standards. They mainly cover topics related to banking and insurance regulation and supervision.
