About the Americas Office

The Representative Office for the Americas (Americas Office), established in 2002, coordinates the activities of the BIS in the Americas, aiming to strengthen the relationship between, and to promote cooperation among, the BIS and the central banks and monetary authorities in the region.

In addition, the Americas Office supports BIS banking services provided to institutions based in the region and globally, extending banking services to nearly 24 hours, improving the exchange of information and facilitating the organisation of meetings and seminars.

In pursuing these goals, the Americas Office is cooperating with regional central banking and supervisory organisations. It has contributed to the BIS' financial and economic research on the Americas, and provided expertise in support of various events organised by regional central banks and various international fora.

Activities

The Americas Office's primary activities include:

strengthening the relationship of the BIS and central banks and other relevant institutions in the region, and promoting cooperation among them
conducting research and policy analysis on issues related to regional economies, monetary policy, financial markets and financial stability
facilitating the organisation of meetings and networks for central banks to promote discussions on key topics in the region
providing central banks with a full suite of banking services including treasury and investment products

BIS Banking in the Americas

The Americas Office serves as the gateway for BIS banking customers' regional investment activities and provides regional customers with access to the full range of the Bank's financial services during New York trading hours, supplementing the Hong Kong and Basel based banking activities.

Consultative Council for the Americas (CCA)

The Consultative Council for the Americas (CCA) was established in 2008 as an advisory committee to the BIS Board of Directors. It comprises the Governors of BIS member central banks in the Americas: those of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and the United States.
