The CBGG has a mandate to foster the good governance of central banks. It fulfils this mandate by providing a venue for the exchange of views among central bank governors on matters of central bank governance and institutional design. The Group discusses a range of topics related to central bank mandates, decision-making structures, transparency arrangements, communication strategies, accountability mechanisms, finances, and interactions with government.
An extensive set of central bank governance information is available to registered central bank staff on the password-protected eBIS platform. This information includes all CBGG background notes organised by theme, along with relevant datasets, surveys, and other documents. This comprehensive collection provides a unique resource for comparing practices in central bank governance and institutional design.
Central bank staff are welcome to register for access to the Governance area of the eBIS Platform by completing a registration form (see the box on the right for registration information).* On an exceptional basis, access to some select materials may be granted to academics. Access to the eBIS platform is a privilege granted in accordance with specific eligibility criteria and is subject to a disclosure agreement.
*The access of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation to all BIS services, meetings and other BIS activities has been suspended.
