Puriya Abbassi joined the BIS in December 2025 from the Deutsche Bundesbank. At the Bundesbank, where he worked on financial stability for 14 years, he spent the last five years leading a section on macroprudential surveillance of financial markets, focusing on financial stability risks arising from system-wide interlinkages. He also contributed to policy work for the ESRB General Board, the ECB Governing Council, the Financial Stability Board and the Committee on the Global Financial System. From 2011 to 2020, he taught as an honorary professor at the European Business School. His research examines financial stability and the behaviour of banks and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs), with a particular emphasis on how regulatory constraints shape their decisions.
