Martin Birn is a member of the Secretariat of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. He joined the Secretariat in January 2004 and chairs the Committee's Quantitative Impact Study Group which is analysing the impact of the Basel III framework. Furthermore, he supports the Committee's Research Group and contributed to various aspects of the Committee's policy work, for example on market risk. Before joining the Secretariat, Martin worked in the Research Division of the Banking and Financial Supervision Department of Deutsche Bundesbank. Martin has studied business administration and holds a Diplom from the University of Mannheim.
