Juan Contreras joined the BIS in August 2016. He was previously Head of the Real Sector Research unit at the Bank of Mexico, where he also worked as a research economist. Previously, he was a principal economist in the Fiscal Studies Unit of the US Congressional Budget Office. His research interests include fiscal policy, productivity, and labour and health economics. Juan holds a PhD in economics from the University of Maryland, College Park.
