Goetz von Peter

Goetz is a Principal Economist with expertise on the global financial system and international economics. He is the Head of International Banking and Financial Statistics, the group that compiles and analyses the BIS statistics on international banking, bond markets and derivatives markets. Since he joined the BIS in 2004, Goetz has worked in various research units and for the Committee on the Global Financial System; from 2016 to 2020, he was part of the International Data Hub focusing on the exposures and interconnectedness of global systemically important banks (G-SIBs). He is a regular contributor to the BIS Quarterly Review and has published research articles on international finance, global banking, financial centres, interbank markets and networks, as well as crises and natural disasters. Goetz holds a BSc and MSc from the London School of Economics, and a PhD in economics from Columbia University.
