Patrick's current research is focused on international financial markets and financial stability issues, with a specific interest in international banking. He was previously the Head of the International Banking and Financial Statistics unit, which compiles and analyses BIS statistics covering international banking and derivatives markets. Prior to that, he was the Head of the BIS International Data Hub, which collects and analyses supervisory data for systemically important banks. Before joining the BIS in 2002, Patrick completed his PhD in economics at the University of Michigan with a dissertation on the Japanese financial system.
