Giovanni Lombardo obtained his PhD from the University of York in 2000. Between 1999 and 2001, he was a lecturer in economics at Trinity College Dublin. From 2001 to 2004, he worked as senior economist at the Deutsche Bundesbank (research). Between 2004 and 2014, he worked at the ECB as senior economist, mostly in the Research Directorate, with shorter spells in the Monetary Policy Strategy and International Policy Analysis divisions. He is visiting Professor at the University of Basel, where he teaches international macroeconomics and finance.
