Gabriel Zelpo joined the BIS in January 2026. Based in the Americas, he focuses on macroeconomic monitoring across the region and supports the Consultative Group on Risk Management under the BIS Consultative Council for the Americas. He was previously with the Central Bank of Chile, where he worked in the International Analysis Division from 2022. Before that, he held senior economist roles in Argentina and provided macroeconomic strategy analysis for financial institutions. His research focuses on applied macroeconomics, including international spillovers from developments in the Chinese economy, commodity markets and inflation expectations. Gabriel holds a master’s degree in economics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
