Julio Velarde appointed Chair of the BIS Consultative Council for the Americas

The Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has appointed Julio Velarde as Chair of the BIS Consultative Council for the Americas (CCA). Mr Velarde is Governor of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru.

Mr Velarde's appointment is for a term of two years as from 9 January 2018. He succeeds Stephen S Poloz, Governor of the Bank of Canada, who has chaired the Council for the last two years. The BIS Board expressed its gratitude to Mr Poloz for his leadership during his time as Chair. 

The CCA was established in May 2008 as an advisory committee to the BIS Board of Directors. It comprises the Governors of BIS member central banks in the Americas: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and the United States. 

The BIS Representative Office for the Americas, located in Mexico City, provides the Secretariat for the CCA.
