Swapan joined the BIS in August 2003. He previously served in the Statistics Department of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Mumbai. At the RBI, he was Assistant Adviser (2002-03) and Research Officer (1995-2001), in charge of design, implementation, training and compilation of international banking statistics. He holds a master's and a bachelor's degree in statistics from the University of Calcutta. He is a Junior Associate member of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance, and holds a diploma in computer applications.
