Before joining the BIS, Robert Szemere served as Secretary of the Monetary Council at the Hungarian central bank (from 2010 to 2011), after working as a Senior Fiscal Analyst at the central bank from 2006 until 2010. Previously, he worked as an Economist-Statistician at the European Central Bank and a Statistical Analyst at the Hungarian central bank.
