Peter Wierts' portfolio includes conducting payments-related research and supporting the work of the CPMI Future of Payments Working Group on innovations in payments. Before joining the BIS, he worked at De Nederlandsche Bank (2006-23) and as associate professor of finance at VU University Amsterdam (2014-23). Prior to that, he worked at the European Commission (DG ECFIN; 2002-05) and the Dutch Ministry of Finance (1996-2002). His research has appeared in journals such as Journal of Political Economy, Economic Policy, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking and the International Journal of Central Banking. He holds a PhD from the University of Reading.
