Matthias joined the BIS in 2024. His research focuses on quantitative macroeconomics with a particular emphasis on monetary economics, macro-finance and neural networks. Prior to joining the BIS, Matthias was a research economist at the Deutsche Bundesbank and worked at the European Central Bank. Matthias holds a PhD in economics from the European University Institute.
