The BIS Triennial Central Bank Survey is the most comprehensive source of information on the size and structure of global foreign exchange and OTC derivatives markets. By increasing market transparency, the survey aims to help policymakers and market participants better monitor patterns of activity and exposures in the global financial system.

The Triennial Survey complements more frequent regional surveys conducted by foreign exchange committees in Australia, Canada, London, New York, Singapore and Tokyo as well as the semiannual survey of OTC derivatives markets coordinated by the BIS.

Survey results

National survey results are available on the websites of the central banks and other authorities that participated in the survey. Detailed analyses of the 2013 Triennial Survey results were published in the December 2013 issue of the BIS Quarterly Review.
