BIS extends term for John Williams as Chair of the Markets Committee

- John C. Williams, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, is to continue as Chair of the Bank for International Settlements' Markets Committee.
- Mr Williams was first appointed for a three-year term in January 2023.
At their recent meeting at the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, the central bank Governors of the Global Economy Meeting (GEM) announced that John C. Williams, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, has been appointed to a second three-year term as Chair of the Markets Committee.
Mr Williams was first appointed in January 2023 to succeed Jacqueline Loh, Deputy Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
The Markets Committee is a forum in which central bank officials discuss current market conditions, market functioning and central bank operations. Comprising senior officials from 27 central banks, it was established in 1962 and is the longest-standing BIS committee.
