BIS Representative Office for Asia and the Pacific

The BIS established its Representative Office for Asia and the Pacific (Asian Office) in Hong Kong SAR in July 1998.

In 2019, as part of Innovation BIS 2025, the BIS relaunched the activities of the Asian Office. By leveraging its location and regional expertise, the BIS Asian Office aims to strengthen the BIS's role as a financial service provider to the region's central banks and contribute to high-level policy discussions through research contributions and targeted analytical work to support the evolving needs of central banks in Asia. The Asian Office's main role is to:

  • enhance cooperation among central banks in the region
  • offer the BIS's banking services to regional central banks
  • act as a regional forum for economic, monetary and financial research on issues of interest to central banks
