Amit Seru discusses the policy challenges from tech firms' entry into payments and financial services and explains how the current surge in fintech innovation matches up to the past.

The Bank for International Settlements announces the appointment of Professor Amit Seru as the Alexandre Lamfalussy Senior Research Fellow for 2018.

Professor Seru is the Steven and Roberta Denning Professor of Finance at the Graduate School of Business, Stanford University. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution and the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. His primary research interest is in corporate finance and banking. He has made path-breaking contributions to the study of financial intermediation and regulation, the interaction of the internal organisation of firms with financing and investment, and incentive provision in firms. He is a co-editor of the Journal of Finance and has a distinguished record of influential publications in economics and finance. Professor Seru will take up his Fellowship in June 2018.

The Alexandre Lamfalussy Senior Research Fellowship is awarded annually to internationally recognised experts in the fields of banking, monetary policy and financial stability. The Lamfalussy Fellow conducts research on a topic relevant to the BIS, collaborating with BIS colleagues and making use of the extensive networks and resources available at the Bank. This is the fourth fellowship award.
