Which is the nearest major airport to Lucerne?
The closest major airport is Zurich-Kloten with hourly direct train connections to Lucerne's main railway station from the Airport Station (Zurich-Flughafen) situated inside the airport building. Journey time is about one hour and 15 minutes. Train timetables available at www.sbb.ch.
EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg is about 20 minutes by taxi or bus (no. 50) - both available outside the terminal building - from Basel's main railway station (Basel SBB), where there are hourly direct train connections to Lucerne. Journey time is approximately one hour. Train timetables available at www.sbb.ch.
Is it possible to buy a train ticket on the day of arrival or is it advisable to book it online beforehand?
It is not necessary to buy tickets beforehand. Rail tickets can be purchased with cash (Swiss francs) or major credit cards at the ticket offices or at vending machines located on the station concourse.
Will conference presentations be posted?
Presentations will be posted on the Annual Conference's protected website before the conference and a few copies will be available in print form at the conference itself. They will also be posted after the conference on the BIS website (after revision and again subject to authorisation by the authors and discussants).
Can my partner/spouse attend the conference events?
Partners/spouses will be welcome to attend the various social events (lunches, excursion, dinner).
What is the dress code?
Business attire is appropriate for the conference sessions and all other events, except for the partners' programme and informal dinner on Thursday, for which casual attire would be preferred.
What is the weather like in Lucerne?
In June temperatures range between 11C (52F) and 21C (70F) and the town experiences on average 14 days of rain during the month. Participants would therefore be advised to bring some warm items of clothing.
