About the programme

The G20 has made faster, cheaper, more transparent and more inclusive cross-border payments a priority and has set targets to achieve this by end-2027. The Roadmap, endorsed by the G20 Leaders, lays out a comprehensive set of actions across 19 "building blocks". Each of the building blocks individually can bring notable benefits to cross-border payments. However, those supporting the priority themes of (1) payment system interoperability and extension; (2) legal, regulatory and supervisory frameworks; and (3) cross-border data exchange and message standards are particularly likely to help in achieving the G20 targets.

The CPMI leads the implementation of 11 of the 19 building blocks under the overall programme: two of these are in cooperation with the BIS Innovation Hub (BISIH) and another one with the Financial Stability Board (FSB).
