Triennial Central Bank Survey of Foreign Exchange and Derivatives Market Activity in 2010: Reporting Guidelines and Templates (reporting dealers/institutions)

In September 2009 the BIS announced the organisation of the eight Triennial Survey, which will be conducted in April and June 2010 and will count with the participation of 54 central banks and monetary authorities. The purpose of the survey is to obtain comprehensive and internationally consistent information on the size and structure of the foreign exchange and the over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives markets with the aim of increasing market transparency and thereby helping monetary authorities and market participants to better monitor patterns of activity and exposures in the global financial system.

The BIS has been working with central banks and monetary authorities to prepare the guidelines and reporting templates that will be used for both parts of the exercise. This documentation, first circulated to the central banks in July and August 2009, is now being made available to all the participating institutions.

The survey has been structured in two different parts, namely the Turnover Part and the Amounts Outstanding Part.
