The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision sets global minimum standards for the regulation of banks and provides a forum for cooperation on banking supervisory matters. Its mandate is to strengthen the regulation, supervision and practices of banks worldwide with the goal of improving financial stability. Basel Committee standards and guidelines are developed and issued by its members, who represent 28 jurisdictions. They are implemented by national authorities.
