Jaime Caruana's term of office as BIS General Manager extended

The Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) today announced that it has extended the term of office of the General Manager, Jaime Caruana, to end-March 2017.

Mr Caruana assumed his responsibilities as BIS General Manager on 1 April 2009, for a term of five years to end-March 2014. Christian Noyer, Chairman of the BIS Board, said that, following a request by the Board, Mr Caruana agreed to an extension of his term of office. Mr Caruana will reach the normal BIS retirement age of 65 in March 2017.

On behalf of the members of the Board of Directors, Mr Noyer thanked Mr Caruana for his excellent contributions over more than four years as BIS General Manager and welcomed his continued service to the Bank.
