The central bank network on historical monetary and financial statistics (HMFS)

About HMFS

The central bank network on historical monetary and financial statistics (HMFS) brings together central bank statisticians and academic experts to focus on long-run historic monetary and financial data that are relevant to policymakers. The aim is to provide a forum where statisticians, policymakers, economists and historians can discuss approaches to historic data and learn from each other.

The group has two guiding principles. One is the importance of comparability of statistics across countries and time. The other is the importance of transparency in how those statistics are produced, highlighting their strengths and limitations and paving the way for improvements over time.
