Search help - Using BIS search from the toolbar

The Bank for International Settlements website search engine supports the OpenSearch initiative, one feature of which is the ability to search the BIS website directly from your web browser toolbar.

This feature is supported by Internet Explorer version 7 and higher, and Firefox version 2 and higher. Instructions for IE appear next, with Firefox guidelines below. All images can be clicked on to view a larger and clearer screenshot.

Internet Explorer instructions

Using BIS search from the Internet Explorer toolbar works for versions 7 and higher.

When visiting a web page that supports OpenSearch, an icon next to the search box in the toolbar will light up. Note the drop-down icon in the image below - it appears orange to indicate the BIS search engine can be added to the toolbar. It is only possible to add the BIS Search engine on the BIS advanced search page.

Once "BIS Search" is the currently selected provider, entering a search term and pressing the Enter key will run that search on the BIS website. The image below shows how a search on "operational risk" can be entered at any time - including when you are not currently on the BIS website - with the results appearing automatically on the BIS site.
