Data template on international reserves/foreign currency liquidity

09 March 1999

Abstract

On 9th November 1998, the BIS released a report on "Enhancing transparency regarding the authorities' foreign currency liquidity position", prepared by a working group established by the Committee on the Global Financial System (then called Euro-currency Standing Committee). The report proposed a template for the disclosure of this position. Following the mandate of the CGFS, a group of experts reviewed some technical aspects of the proposals and its conclusions were published on December 1998 in the BIS website, as report number 9a of the CGFS, together with an amended version of the template. The CGFS noted that the IMF (which participated in the previous CGFS working group and group of experts) was working on a very similar, parallel template, in the context of the Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS) and proposed to reconcile both templates into a single proposal. As this process is now complete, the BIS is releasing today, as report 9b, a new version of the template produced jointly by the CGFS and the IMF. The template can also be found in the IMF website (www.imf.org).
