CPMI Cross-border payments programme
Enhancing cross-border payments' speed and transparency, while increasing access to cross-border payment services and reducing their costs, are the key objectives of the G20 cross-border payments programme. Since the G20 Leaders endorsed the Roadmap for Enhancing Cross-border Payments in 2020, much has been accomplished in laying the foundations through the necessary stocktakes and analysis across all 19 "building blocks". The CPMI leads the implementation of 11 of the 19 building blocks under the overall programme.
Having now reached an inflection point, the programme is moving to practical projects with a view to enhancing cross-border payment infrastructures and arrangements. Drawing from the analysis to date and the feedback received from stakeholders, the CPMI, together with the Financial Stability Board (FSB) and partner bodies, will prioritise the future work towards three, interconnected, themes:
- Payment system interoperability and extension
- Legal, regulatory and supervisory frameworks
- Cross-border data exchange and message standards
