About other indicators
In supporting economic research on macroeconomics and financial stability, the BIS publishes data on long series of major macroeconomic indicators, namely consumer prices and policy rates.
About our data sets
The BIS's data set on consumer prices - published since September 2016 - contains long monthly and annual time series for 62 countries. The series have been used in particular for the calculation of the real effective exchange rate and real residential property price series published by the BIS.
The average length of the monthly series is more than 60 years. Some annual series go back to the middle of the 19th century - or even earlier for several countries. The BIS constructed long consumer price index series by joining the series available for consecutive periods.
In the September 2016 BIS Quarterly Review, "Recent enhancements to the BIS statistics" summarised the characteristics of the data set.
This data set - published since September 2017 - contains the monetary policy rates of 38 central banks. In undertaking this task, the BIS has collaborated closely with national central banks which advised in the selection of the policy rate. The data set also contains historical information on policy rates, going back to 1946 for several countries.
