special purpose entity (SPE)

Entity established for the sole purpose of carrying out a single transaction, such as in the context of asset securitisation through the issuance of asset-backed and mortgage-backed securities. Also referred to as a special purpose corporation (SPC) or special purpose vehicle (SPV).
