Coming from a small twin island republic, Trinidad and Tobago, I got my first real taste of banking at a local commercial bank. After spending several years working in banking operations and settlement in Canada, I was hired by the BIS to work in the newly created Collateral Management division. The excitement and challenge of assisting in the development of the new unit made easier my decision to move to Basel with my family.
My team is responsible for bilateral/tri-party repo collateral management, margin calls processing, portfolio reconciliation, payment/settlement follow-up, as well as dispute management, reporting and analysis. I find the work as a Settlement Officer very rewarding and working with a very diverse group of people gives a different outlook to the job at hand. As the division continues to develop and grow there is still lots to learn. In addition, my job at the BIS has given me the opportunity to develop an international perspective of banking operations and settlement as I deal with clients from diverse backgrounds, with different needs, located in various part of the world.
Also, working at the BIS has given my family and me a great opportunity to experience living in Basel, which is a unique place to live, as you are never far away from anything. Quite literally, in one day you can experience three cultures, enjoying breakfast in Switzerland, lunch in Germany and dinner in France.
