Position: Audit Manager
After my degree and MBA in International Finance, I worked with PriceWaterhouse in London and a Japanese bank in Vienna. I then spent seven years with the American multinational Philip Morris, before a headhunter introduced me to the BIS in 2003. I have to admit that I knew very little about the BIS before joining, so I went to my interview in Basel without any preconceptions.
Of course, I now realise what an important part the BIS plays in the financial world, although my work is very much concerned with internal processes. There's plenty of variety, as I get to audit every part of the business and enjoy plenty of interaction with senior management. The best thing about working here is the people: they're extremely bright, with PhDs from excellent universities - so you're always learning new things.
Moving to Basel wasn't a huge deal for me, as I'd worked in Switzerland before and already spoke German. It's a bit different from anywhere I've worked before, being much smaller: whenever I'm out and about in the city I bump into people from the Bank. But I've settled in really well, and there's definitely nothing to complain about!
