Diego Devos was appointed General Counsel on 1 October 2009.
As Head of the Legal Service, Mr Devos serves as a member of the Bank's Executive Committee, which is responsible for implementing the Bank's strategic and policy direction as determined by the Board.
Mr Devos joined the BIS in 2006 as Deputy General Counsel, providing legal advice on a broad range of issues.
Before coming to the BIS, Mr Devos was Deputy General Counsel of Euroclear Bank in Brussels. Previously, he was Legal Advisor in the legal department of the National Bank of Belgium and a barrister at the Brussels bar.
He earned degrees in law from the University of Brussels.
Born in Montreal in 1957, Mr Devos is a Belgian national. He is married and has one child.
